Definition

A power, also known as an exponent, is a mathematical operation that involves multiplying a number (the base) by itself a certain number of times. The number of times the base is multiplied by itself is represented by a superscript value (the exponent) that is placed to the right and above the base.

For example, 2^3 represents 2 multiplied by itself 3 times, which equals 8. In this case, 2 is the base and 3 is the exponent.

Exponents are used to express very large or very small numbers in a compact form. They are also used to describe the growth or decay of certain quantities over time, and they play a fundamental role in many areas of mathematics, including algebra, calculus, and number theory.
